Grades 7 & 8 Musical “Once Upon a Mattress”

STATEN ISLAND ACADEMY: On May 10th and 11th at Staten Island Academy (SIA), grades 7 and 8 will put on the production of “Once Upon a Mattress” with the help of the Theater Arts Crew. 

Every year during the Spring season, SIA’s grades 7 and 8 put on a production with help from a lot of the staff, students, and faculty. This year, the arts department has selected “Once Upon a Mattress,” a classic Broadway comedy. Many of the grade 7 and 8 students are looking forward to the outcome of the musical.

7th and 8th Grade Perform in Winter Concert

On January 17th, 2019, Staten Island Academy’s (SIA) 7th and 8th graders performed in their winter chorus concert. Throughout the years, SIA’s middle school students have been performing in many different concerts from spring and winter concerts to performing at assemblies and special events. This year, the 7th and 8th graders have performed a variety of songs, like “Heart and Soul” by Hoagy Carmicheal (7th grade) and “Just Believe” by (8th grade). Both groups have been preparing for this special show since the beginning of the school year and both grades have been working very hard to perfect their pieces since then.

The Great Academy Read: Volume 2

The Staten Island Academy (SIA) middle school newspaper, “The Maroon and Gold” will feature a second volume of “The Great Academy Read” to encourage reading. This volume features interviews with Hana R. (grade 5), Erin S. (grade 8), and Ms. Rizzo that discuss how their favorite books have affected them.

SIA Orchestra Performs a Winter Show with the R.C.O.

Staten Island: The Staten Island Academy (SIA) youth orchestra will perform a winter themed show with the Richmond County Orchestra at St. John’s University. The performance will take place on December 2nd at 3:00 pm.

Since the beginning of Staten Island Academy’s 2018-2019 school year, the middle school and high school orchestra has been practicing for multiple upcoming performances. Two of those performances include playing side by side with professional musicians from the Richmond County Orchestra and being conducted by Mr. Maestro Alan Aurelia for the second year in a row. “Not all people get the opportunity to play with experienced professionals. As a kid in the orchestra, I look up to people like them,” said Morgan M., a middle school orchestra member.
