On February 22nd, 2019 International Family Fun Night (IFFN) begun. This took place in the Patrick Commons and started at 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The night was put together with the Parents’ League. According to the S.I.A portal it was night where you can show off “your favorite family dishes, represent your heritage by wearing traditional garments and enjoy our festival of cultural entertainment and dance.”
International Family Fun Night started 6 years ago (2013). Ms. Savino is a faculty member who used to teach 5th and 6th grade English and History. Ms. Savino said that “we wanted to come up with a fun way to celebrate the cultural differences in our community.” Last year the Patrick Commons was decorated with the countries flags by the Parents’ League. Families could donate traditional dishes and the students could perform a talent/fashion show to explain the history of the countries.
Six years later, this year the theme is Famous People. Ms. Savino said that students can come dressed as people who “have positively impacted their country in some way.” At IFFN families brought in traditional dishes from many different places for everyone to enjoy.
This year at IFFN the 7th and 8th grade Mandarin classes performed. The 7th grade Mandarin class sung ‘Tien Mi Mi’ by Teresa Tang. The 8th grade Mandarin class told the story of Chinese New Year in Mandarin and English.
Overall IFFN was a fun night, and if you missed there’s always next year to enjoy it.
