Behind the Scenes of Washington D.C.

On March 13th– March 15th, 7th grade students went on an overnight trip to Washington D.C. for two nights. Each year the 7th grade class go one this trip, for it is a school tradition and every time kids and teachers come back with their own point of view on how the trip went. For a lot of people this was their first time going on an overnight trip with Staten Island Academy (SIA).

International Family Fun Night

On February 22nd, 2019 International Family Fun Night (IFFN) begun. This took place in the Patrick Commons and started at 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm. The night was put together with the Parents’ League. According to the S.I.A portal it was night where you can show off “your favorite family dishes, represent your heritage by wearing traditional garments and enjoy our festival of cultural entertainment and dance.”

Middle School Dance Gone Right

Were you at the Middle School (M.S.) dance? The M.S. dance is when all the Middle Schoolers and some teachers and advisors come together in the winter, in the lunchroom, on Friday and dance! The M.S. dance, held on February 8, 2019 in the Commons, had a theme this year of “black-out,” meaning the students were to wear all black. According to Ms. Rizzo, there is a dance in the middle of winter because winter is not usually something to look forward to, but the dance makes winter somewhat better before spring hits. According to the 7 and 8 Journalism class, everyone loved the dance.

Model Congress Works Hard

Ever thought about creating your own bills from SCRATCH? Making topics, researching information and working hard to present in a competition? Working your butt off to take home the win? There are many fun electives that you may choose when you get to seventh and eighth grade. One of them is Model Congress. This is an elective where you can challenge yourself by creating your own bills and presentations. The students create their own bills, then share with the class. When they have their final bills, the class takes a trip to Packer Colgate Institute to present their complete pieces to all the other schools participating and the judges. In this elective working hard is a habit, but it all pays of at the end.
